Apple has been part of the ConnectED initiative since 2014, pledging $100 million of teaching and learning solutions to 114 undeserved schools across the country. We’ve donated an iPad to every student, a Mac and iPad to every teacher, and an Apple TV to every classroom. And we’ve implemented a process that provides planning, professional learning, and ongoing guidance so every school can experience the transformational power of technology.
Many Apple ConnectED schools do not have a strong network or a dedicated technology department. So before any products are delivered, Apple Project Engineers conduct a full survey of the school’s existing wireless infrastructure and help install or upgrade a network. To help every teacher become comfortable with new technology, the Apple Education team provides a series of workshops designed specifically for educators. We start by helping them integrate iPad, Mac, and Apple TV into their curriculum and lessons, then show them how to create original and engaging books, presentations, and other learning materials. Compared to the previous year, open leadership roles filled by women globally increased by 10 percentage points overall, and by 8 percentage points in R&D. And in the U.S., open leadership roles filled by people from underrepresented communities increased by 16 percentage points overall, and by 9 percentage points in R&D.
2019 Macbook Air 1.6GHz Dual-Core Processor with Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz 128GB Storage Touch ID, The Apple MacBook Air “Core i5” 1.6 13-Inch (True Tone Retina, 2019) model features a 14-nm “Amber Lake Y” 1.6 GHz Intel “Core i5” processor (8210Y) with two independent processor “cores” on a single chip, a 4 MB shared level 3 cache, 8 GB of onboard 2133 MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM and 128 GB or 256 GB of onboard PCIe-based flash storage, and an “integrated” Intel UHD Graphics 617 graphics processor that shares system memory. Both the RAM and the SSD could be upgraded at the time of initial system purchase, but not subsequently.
This all is packed in a thin wedge-shaped aluminum case with an integrated 720p “FaceTime HD” webcam, Touch ID, a thin, backlit revised “third generation” butterfly mechanism keyboard, large “Force Touch” trackpad, and a high-resolution 13.3″ LED-backlit 2560×1600 (227 ppi) “Retina” display with True Tone technology.
The aluminum case is available in three color options — gold (pictured, left), silver, and a darker “Space Gray” (but not other colors) and weighs 2.75 pounds (1.25 kg). Apple estimates battery life at 12-13 hours depending on the task performed.
Connectivity includes 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, two Thunderbolt 3 ports (USB-C connector), and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Compared to its predecessor, this MacBook Air looks effectively the same and has the same processor and architecture, but the newer model has a higher quality display (because of the aforementioned True Tone), a revised keyboard design in an effort to improve reliability, a slightly lower powered battery, smaller custom configured SSD options, some different identifiers, and a lower price tag.
