Sony FE 50mm F1.2 GM Lens

Sony FE 50mm F1.2 GM Lens

Ultra-Bright Professional Prime Performance

The Sony FE 50mm is a high-end standard prime lens designed for professional photography and cinematic video production. It delivers a natural perspective that works well for portraits, weddings, events, street photography, and studio work. The ultra-bright F1.2 aperture allows exceptional low-light performance while producing extremely shallow depth of field. As a result, creators can achieve strong subject isolation and a cinematic visual style.

Sony designed this lens as part of the G Master series. Therefore, it delivers outstanding resolution, contrast, and bokeh quality across the entire frame. The optical system maintains sharp detail even at maximum aperture while reducing chromatic aberration, distortion, and flare. In addition, the lens provides consistent performance for both still photography and video production workflows.

Fast and Precise Autofocus

Sony equipped the lens with dual XD linear motors for fast and highly accurate autofocus performance. The system tracks subjects reliably during continuous shooting and maintains smooth focus transitions during video recording. This makes the lens suitable for portrait sessions, events, and cinematic productions where precise focus control is essential.

Autofocus operation remains quiet, which benefits professional video recording and interviews. The lens also supports advanced subject tracking features in Sony Alpha mirrorless cameras. As a result, creators can depend on consistent focus performance in dynamic shooting environments.

Advanced Optical Design

The Sony FE 50mm uses XA, Super ED, and aspherical elements to achieve exceptional image quality. These elements help reduce spherical aberration, chromatic aberration, and optical distortion. Images remain sharp with high contrast and natural color reproduction from edge to edge.

Sony also applied Nano AR Coating II to reduce flare and ghosting in challenging lighting conditions. This improves clarity when shooting in strong backlight or high-contrast environments. In addition, the rounded 11-blade aperture produces smooth and natural bokeh that enhances portrait and cinematic imagery.

Compact Professional Build

Sony designed this lens to deliver extreme optical performance in a relatively compact form factor. The lightweight construction improves balance on Sony mirrorless camera bodies and supports comfortable handheld shooting. It also performs well on gimbals and stabilized rigs for video production.

The lens includes direct manual controls such as an aperture ring, focus ring, focus hold buttons, and AF/MF switch. These controls allow fast adjustments during professional shoots. The dust and moisture-resistant construction improves durability for outdoor and on-location work.

Premium Lens for Creative Professionals

The Sony FE 50mm combines an ultra-bright F1.2 aperture, advanced G Master optics, and fast autofocus in a professional prime lens. It performs exceptionally well for portraits, weddings, fashion, interviews, and cinematic video production. Photographers benefit from extreme subject isolation and sharp image quality, while filmmakers gain smooth focus control and reliable performance. The lens delivers top-tier results for creators who need a flagship standard prime for Sony E-mount cameras.
