Viltrox 27mm f/1.2 Lens (Sony E)

The viltrox 27mm f1.2 lens for Sony E‑mount APS‑C cameras combines bright aperture, robust construction and advanced autofocus features. With its f/1.2 maximum aperture you gain serious low‑light performance and strong subject separation. Because it offers a roughly 40.5mm full‑frame equivalent field of view, the lens gives you a versatile standard‑length prime that works well for portraits, street photography and everyday shooting. Its all‑metal weather‑sealed build ensures durability in varied conditions while the STM motor and smart AF modes make it well suited for both stills and video.

Optical Design & Performance

This lens uses 15 elements in 11 groups, which includes “ED” low‑dispersion elements to reduce chromatic aberration and improve clarity across the frame. Because of this construction, the lens delivers sharp detail, balanced contrast and pleasing bokeh. The large f/1.2 aperture also allows for shallow depth‑of‑field effects and better performance in dim lighting. As a result, you can isolate your subject from background distractions and create more impactful images.

Autofocus & Handling

The viltrox 27mm f1.2 features a STM stepping motor that drives fast and precise autofocus. It supports modern focusing modes such as eye, face and animal detection, which enhances its versatility in real‑world shooting. Moreover, the lens includes an MF/AF switch for quick manual override, and metal electronic contacts to transmit EXIF data. The USB‑C firmware port allows future updates, which adds value for long‑term use.

Build Quality & Usability

Constructed with an all‑metal barrel and a weather‑resistant mount, this lens is built to handle challenging environments. Its filter thread size is 67mm, and it uses a minimum focusing distance of 11″ (27.9 cm) as per official specs. The 11‑blade diaphragm helps produce smooth bokeh and pleasing out‑of‑focus areas. Overall, this lens offers premium feel and strong optical character in a form that many users will find practical.
