The Apple MacBook Pro “M4 Max” 16-Core CPU/40-Core GPU 14-Inch (2024) technically is a “configure-to-order” configuration of the MacBook Pro “M4 Pro” 12 CPU/16 GPU 14″, MacBook Pro “M4 Pro” 14 CPU/20 GPU 14″, and MacBook Pro “M4 Max” 14 CPU/32 GPU 14″, but also is documented as a separate model for reader convenience.

The Apple MacBook Pro “M4 Max” 16-Core CPU/40-Core GPU 14-Inch (2024) model features a 4.5 GHz Apple M4 Max processor with sixteen CPU cores (12 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores), a 40-core GPU, a 16-core Neural Engine, a minimum 48 GB of “unified” onboard RAM, and a minimum 1 TB onboard SSD. Both the RAM and the SSD can be custom configured with higher end options at the time of initial system purchase, but not upgraded subsequently.

Offered in silver (pictured) and “Space Black”, this notebook has an integrated 12 megapixel “Center Stage” camera, a “high-fidelity six-speaker sound system with force-cancelling woofers,” a backlit “Magic Keyboard” with a “Touch ID” sensor, and a large “Force Touch” trackpad.

Additionally, it has a high-resolution LED-backlit 14.2″ widescreen 3024×1964 (254 ppi, 1000 nits sustained, 1600 nits peak HDR, 1000 nits SDR, 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio) “Liquid Retina XDR” display, and a integrated battery that provides an Apple estimated 13-18 hours of runtime.

Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax), Bluetooth 5.3, three Thunderbolt 5 ports (USB-C connector), an HDMI 2.1 port, an SDXC-capable SD card slot, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and a “MagSafe 3” power connector.

Compared to its predecessor, this 14″ “2024” MacBook Pro model is similar in many respects, but has a faster processor/graphics processor architecture, a slightly brighter display (and a nano-texture option at additional cost), a better camera, faster Thunderbolt ports, and better battery life.
